Reduce Bond

Reduce Bond is an option under the Edit menu that can be used to reduce or remove a bond.  The purpose of this function is to allow the modification ('reduction') of an existing bond.  If you want to create a new bond, or convert a single to a double bond, or a double to a triple bond, you would use the appropriate bond object as described in Adding or Changing Bonds.

To reduce or remove an existing bond, you would select the Reduce Bond option from the Edit menu.  The mouse pointer will change form to a cross-hair.  Locate the pointer over the bond of interest and click the left mouse button to reduce the bond by one level.  This option is for alkyl bonds only, it has no effect on aromatic bonds.  Note: if the Reduce Bond cursor is clicked over a saturated (single) bond, the bond will be deleted.
