Displaying Atoms
There are three settings that can affect the display of atoms in a molecule. Show Atoms is a selection on the Options menu that will display all atoms in the molecule including cyclic carbon atoms. This is often useful to confirm the proper valence on each atom since all of the valence hydrogens will also be displayed. By default, cyclic carbon atoms such as those in a benzene ring are not displayed. Clicking on Show Atoms on the menu item, or selecting it from the Right-click Popup menu, will display all carbon atoms in the molecule, both acyclic and cyclic. Select Show Atoms again to turn it off.
The option Implicit Carbons on Page 2 under Preferences will change the default to all implicit carbons, that is neither cyclic nor acyclic carbons will be displayed, only bond connections will be shown. This option can be quickly toggled on an off by clicking on the toolbar short cut. See Toolbar
The third setting is Number Atoms on the Edit menu. Clicking this selection will display the main array entry number for each atom in the connection table. This is most useful when creating a new R-group file since the atom numbered 1 will be the attachment atom for the group. This is a single time display. When the molecule is next redrawn on screen the number labels will disappear.
